Bishops' Wall Named Division III Player of Year

Ohio Wesleyan University senior Travis Wall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) was named NCAA Division III Player of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, it was announced today.

Wall, a forward, earned first-team All-America laurels from the NSCAA last week.

Wall led the Bishops and the North Coast Athletic Conference in scoring with 19 goals and 15 assists this season.  He compiled 4 goals and 2 assists during Ohio Wesleyan's run to the NCAA Division III championship, tallying points in each of the Bishops' 5 playoff games.  Wall assisted the game-winning goal in Ohio Wesleyan's 1-0 win over Washington (Mo.) in second round.  In the sectional semifinals, he had a goal and an assist, scoring the game-winner in the 86th minute, as Ohio Wesleyan overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit to defeat Ohio Northern 3-2.  He scored what proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 win over Hope in a national quarterfinal game, then scored to give Ohio Wesleyan a 2-0 lead in a 4-0 national semifinal win over Montclair State.  In the national championship game, he scored the go-ahead goal in what would be a 2-1 win over Calvin.  Wall was named the Most Outstanding Player - Offense of the national semifinals and championship game.

Ohio Wesleyan won the NCAA Division III championship, the second national title for the Battling Bishops.  Ohio Wesleyan won the NCAC championship with a 9-0 record, the Bishops' 20th title in the 28 seasons of NCAC competition, and finished the season with a 23-2 overall record.
