Ohio Wesleyan 75, Hiram 62

Junior wing Vaughn Spaulding (Reynoldsburg) scored 5 points during a 14-2 run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay, and senior wing Tim Brady (Dublin/Jerome) scored some timely points during the second half to preserve the lead as the Bishops defeated Hiram in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Ohio Wesleyan raced to a 13-7 lead behind the early scoring of Brady and Spaulding, but Hiram evened the game with 3-pointers from Andrew Wiegand and Alan Sheppard, and the Terriers went on to take a 25-21 lead on Wiegand's 3-point play midway through the first half, and Hiram still led, 28-24, after a Matt Roman 3-pointer at the 8:46 mark.

Junior post Greg White (Centerville) hit a lay-in to start the Bishop run, and 3-pointers by freshman wing Nick Felhaber (Holland/Toledo St. John's) and Spaulding put Ohio Wesleyan ahead, 32-28.  White added a pair of free throws, and Spaulding followed with a dunk off an alley-oop from junior guard Andy Winters (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) before a lay-in by junior post Marshall Morris (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) gave Ohio Wesleyan a 38-30 lead with 3:40 to play in the half.

The Bishops led, 42-34, at the break, but Hiram's Aaron Stefanov opened the second half with a jumper to make it a 2-possession game.

Ohio Wesleyan responded with a Brady 3-point play, a Brady fast-break lay-in, and a 3-pointer by Winters off a Brady feed -- all within a span of 66 seconds -- as the Bishops opened up a double-digit lead at 50-38 with 15:20 to go.

Hiram again turned to the outside, getting 3-pointers from Wiegand and Stefanov to close to within 54-46 with 13:18 remaining, but Brady went 3-for-4 from the line to push the lead back into double figures, and the Terriers would come closer than 10 points only once during the remainder of the contest.

Brady led the Bishops with 21 points, while White finished with 10 points.  Sophomore post Reuel Rogers (Columbus/Bexley) grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds, and Winters led the Bishops with 6 assists.

Wiegand paced Hiram with 18 points.
