Ohio Wesleyan 66, Wabash 64

Freshman wing Nick Felhaber (Holland/Toledo St. John's) buried a 3-pointer with :13 remaining to give Ohio Wesleyan the lead, and the Bishops withstood a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer in recording a North Coast Athletic Conference win over 23rd-ranked Wabash on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Junior post Marshall Morris (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) had given Ohio Wesleyan a 59-55 lead with a 3-pointer with 3:39 left in regulation time, but Wabash answered with an Aaron Zinnerman lay-in and a 3-pointer from Houston Hodges to take their first lead of the game at 60-59 with 2:49 to go.

Senior wing Tim Brady (Dublin/Jerome) and Wabash's Brian Shelbourne traded points twice, with a pair of Brady free throws countered by a Shelbourne bucket in each instance, but Brady missed a jumper that would have given the Bishops the lead with :56 remaining.

Zinnerman lost the ball under the Wabash basket with :23 left, and after a timeout, junior guard Andy Winters (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) found Felhaber open in the left corner, and the Bishop freshman launched a 3-pointer for a 66-64 Bishop lead with :13 to go.

Ohio Wesleyan knocked the ball loose in the Wabash end, and after a held ball was called with the arrow in Wabash's favor, the Little Giants inbounded from in front of their bench with :01.6 on the clock.  Wabash's Andy Walsh broke open at the top of the key, but his 3-pointer for the win was off the mark.

Holding a narrow 9-7 lead, the Bishops used an 11-2 run to widen the margin.  Junior wing Vaughn Spaulding (Reynoldsburg) kicked off the run with a thunderous dunk, then hit the free throw to complete a 3-point play.  Lay-ins by Brady and Morris continued the run, and Brady followed with a lay-in, then stole the ball and scored again for a 20-9 Ohio Wesleyan lead with 11:13 left in the first half.

Hodges had a pair of free throws and a lay-in, and Shelbourne added another lay-in as Wabash closed to within 26-22, and the first half would end with Ohio Wesleyan holding a 32-28 lead.

A pair of Brady hoops to open the second half gave the Bishops a 36-28 advantage, but the Little Giants closed to within 47-45 with a pair of 3-pointers by Zinnerman.

Ohio Wesleyan answered with a 7-2 burst, getting a 3-pointer from junior post Greg White (Centerville) and a pair of Morris hoops to push the lead back to 56-49 with 4:43 left, but Wabash again turned to the outside shot, gathering 3-pointers by Walsh and Hodges to pare the deficit to 56-55 with 3:59 left in the game.

Brady led the Bishops with 31 points, while Morris finished with 20 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.  Winters dished out 11 assists.

Hodges led Wabash with 19 points, while Zinnerman added 17 points and Shelbourne scored 11 points.
