Ohio Wesleyan 74, DePauw 61
Senior wing Tim Brady (Dublin/Jerome) scored 7 points as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with an 11-1 run and went on to defeat DePauw in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.
Sophomore post Reuel Rogers (Columbus/Bexley) opened the game's scoring with a putback in the first minute, and after DePauw's Camron Burns hit the second of 2 free throws, Brady knocked down a jumper from the lane, junior post Marshall Morris (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) sank a pair of free throws, and Brady buried a 3-pointer and followed with a pair of free throws for an 11-1 Ohio Wesleyan lead with 14:32 left in the first half.
DePauw, which had missed its first 10 shots from the field, finally broke the ice on Barry Flynn's jumper at the 14:20 mark.
Morris answered with a 3-point play on the other end, and after a pair of Brady free throws at the 11:18 mark, the Bishops held a 16-3 advantage.
Ian Rumpp hit a 3-pointer for DePauw to bring the Tigers within 16-6, but that 10-point margin would be as close as the visitors would come.
Junior post Greg White (Centerville) hit a pair of 3-pointers and freshman wing Nick Felhaber (Holland/Toledo St. John's) added another as the Bishops assembled a 9-2 burst to take a 27-10 lead with 7:17 left in the half, and Morris and Brady hit lay-ins during the final minute of the half to extend the margin to 40-20 at the break.
DePauw rallied in the later stages of the game, closing a 68-48 deficit to 68-54 as Michael Wilkison hit a pair of free throws and a pullup jumper on the fast break, and Connor Rich sank a jumper from the lane, but the Bishops slammed the door with a 3-pointer from junior wing Vaughn Spaulding (Reynoldsburg) and a lay-in by Rogers that pushed the lead back to 73-54 with 2:59 to go.
Brady led the Bishops with 27 points, raising his career total to 1517 and making him the eighth Ohio Wesleyan men's basketball player to surpass the 1500-point plateau.
Morris grabbed a team-high 9 rebounds and junior guard Andy Winters (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) finished with 4 assists.
Sean Haseley had 19 points for DePauw.
