Ohio Wesleyan 1, Earlham 0

Junior attacker Sadie Slager (Hudson) scored the game's only goal to lift Ohio Wesleyan over Earlham in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday at Selby Stadium.

Both goalkeepers made timely saves during the first half to keep the game scoreless.  Freshman Karson Stevenson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) knocked aside a shot by Earlham's Tori Posey midway through the half.

Meanwhile, Quaker keeper Emma Treece recorded 3 saves during the period, emerging unscathed through the tense final minute of action when Ohio Wesleyan had threatened.  A shot by freshman forward Montana Knapp (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) was short of the cage, and sophomore attacker Allison Smith (East Aurora, N.Y.) saw her follow shot saved by Treece.  Ohio Wesleyan earned a penalty corner on the play as the clock expired, but the Quakers were able to clear the play and end the first half.

The Bishops took the lead after another penalty corner.  Knapp's shot was saved by Treece, but Slager pounced on the rebound and slipped it under Treece and inside the right post with exactly 24:00 left in regulation time.

Earlham nearly evened the game less than 2 minutes later, when Kate Birdsall's diagonal pass toward the goal mouth was just out of the reach of an onrushing Neo Khalema.

Ohio Wesleyan had some good looks at an insurance score, but Treece racked up 3 more saves during the period, including a pair in rapid-fire succession in the 56th minute, and Quaker defender Bailey Heinzen cleared a shot by junior defender Jenna Ortega (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) off the line to keep the score 1-0.

The Bishops outshot the Quakers, 27-4.  Stevenson finished with 1 save for Ohio Wesleyan, while Treece recorded 8 saves in the Quaker cage.
