Denison 58, Ohio Wesleyan 43

Sophomore wing Julia Grimsley (Alliance) buried a 3-pointer to tie the game at 28-28 early in the second half, but Denison answered with a 16-3 run to take the lead for good and went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in a quarterfinal matchup of the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament on Tuesday in Granville.

Grimsley had wiped out a 6-3 deficit with a 3-pointer, and the Bishops scored the next 6 points of the game on baskets by sophomore post Tamra Londot (Utica), junior post Helen Scheblo (Canal Winchester/St. Francis DeSales), and freshman post Kristin Henning (Beavercreek) to take a 12-6 lead with 12:51 left in the first half.

The Bishops still led, 18-17, after freshman guard Sarah McQuade (Dublin/Coffman) hit a lay-in with 5:53 to play in the period, but Denison came back with an 8-2 burst that included baskets by Serafina Nuzzo, Jane Windler, and Lydia Harlan, the last giving the Big Red a 25-20 lead with just over a minute remaining.

Harlan opened the second-half scoring with a jumper to give Denison a 28-23 advantage, only to see the Bishops battle back with a Londot lay-up and Grimsley's 3-pointer, squaring the contest at 28 with 17:36 left in regulation time.

Denison would score the next 7 points of the game, with Harlan hitting a 3-pointer and a jumper from the lane, and after a Londot 3-point play, the Big Red reeled off 9 in a row, with Coggins knocking down a 3-pointer and Windler adding a pair of jumpers from paint, giving the hosts a 44-31 edge with 12:56 to go.

McQuade ended that Denison run by hitting the first of 2 free throws with 9:04 to play, but the Bishops would not come closer than that 12-point margin.

Londot led the Bishops with 13 points and 12 rebounds.  McQuade distributed 4 assists.

Windler led Denison with 18 points.
