Sophomore righthander Dani Haley (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) threw back-to-back complete games as Ohio Wesleyan swept a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader from Denison on Friday at Margaret Sagan Field.

Haley fired a 2-hit shutout in the opener, allowing only 2 runners to reach second base.  She struck out a season-high 11 and walked one.

Denison's Becca Dyer was outstanding in the circle as well, tossing a 4-hitter, allowing 4 singles while striking out 5 and walking none.

Three of those hits, however, came in the bottom of the third inning.  Freshman outfielder Chelsea Denman (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) led off with a single, and one out later, singles by junior catcher Brooke Nethers (Newark/Licking Valley) and sophomore shortstop Erica Bryan (Wapakoneta) plated Denman with the game's only run.

Ohio Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap as Nethers led off with a single.  Bryan followed with a bunt to Big Red third baseman Julie Rooney, whose throw to second base was not in time to get Nethers.  Freshman first baseman Cassi Ladina (Dublin/Coffman) was hit by a pitch to fill the sacks, and Haley followed with a grounder down the first base line, with Denison first baseman Jess Robertson throwing home to force Nethers at the plate.  Freshman infielder Steph Cunningham (Seville/Medina) then grounded out to second, with Bryan crossing the plate to put the Bishops on the scoreboard.

Denison evened the game in the third.  With one out, Kait Fiore hit a line drive back up the middle that skipped off Haley's glove and fell in front of Bryan for a hit.  One out later, Julie Rooney hit a chopper in front of the plate and beat Nethers' throw to first, then Rachel Laughlin followed with a single to center to score Fiore.

The Bishops got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Nethers led off with a single to right and continued all the way to third when Big Red rightfielder Rosie Glaser misplayed the ball.  Ladina hit the ball back up the middle off the glove of Denison pitcher Kelsey Hager, and while shortstop Laughlin was able to glove the carom and throw out Ladina at first, Nethers scored on the play to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay.

The Big Red got their leadoff batter on in the sixth, but Haley came back to retire the next 3 hitters on fly balls to Denman, and threatened again in the seventh, when an error by senior second baseman Abby Walsh (Millville, Mass./Blackstone-Millville) and a 2-out single by Fiore put the tying run in scoring position, but Haley induced Hannah Price to fly out to end the game.

Haley finished with a 6-hitter, striking out 8 and walking none.

Hager tossed a 3-hitter and fanned 7 while walking one.
