Wholley, Swanson Highlight Women's Lacrosse

Box Score Wooster 19, Ohio Wesleyan 12

Junior midfielder Meredith Wholley (Brentwood, Tenn.) scored to tie the game at 2-2, but Wooster answered with 9 consecutive goals and went on to post a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday in Wooster.

Alison Schlothauer put the Fighting Scots on the scoreboard just 17 seconds into the game, but sophomore midfielder Theresa Wolfgang (Medina) answered with a goal just over a minute later to even the score at 1-1.  After Wooster's Jaqueline Wallat and Wholley traded goals, the score was deadlocked at 2-2 with 24:40 left in the first half.

Wooster's Clare Nelson-Johnson converted a free-position shot 14 seconds later, and the Scots added scores from Wallat and Eliza Perry 12 seconds apart to increase the lead to 5-2.  Madison Carey added 3 goals in a span of 8 minutes, and goals from Wallat and Sophia Hoover Grant increased the Wooster lead to 11-2 with 6:29 left in the period.

Swanson ended the Wooster run with a goal at the 3:47 mark, scoring off a feed from Wholley, but the Scots tacked on goals from Perry and Shelby Stone to take a 13-3 lead at the intermission.

The Bishops made things interesting by opening the second half with scores from senior attacker Kat Enders (Lake Oswego, Ore./St. Mary's Academy), sophomore midfielder Cate Bailey (Hingham, Mass.) and junior midfielder Molly Curry (Holliston, Mass.) to pull within 13-6, but Wooster answered with a 5-1 run to stretch the lead into double digits at the midway point of the period.

Swanson scored 3 times and added an assist during a late 5-0 Bishop run, and finished with 4 goals and 2 assists.  The 4 goals raised her career total to an even 100.

Bailey added 2 goals and an assist, and Wholley had a goal and 2 assists.

Senior Lauren Figy (Westfield, Mass.) had 6 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan goal.

Carey led the Scots with 5 goals and 2 assists.  Shawna Ferris and Sarah Ragosta combined for 12 saves.
