Top-seeded Kenyon swept all 3 doubles flights and won a pair of singles matches to defeat eighth-seeded Ohio Wesleyan in a quarterfinal match of the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday in Gambier. The match was played to decision.
Kenyon advances to the semifinals on Sunday morning. Ohio Wesleyan will take on Wabash in a consolation semifinal match scheduled for 9 a.m. on Sunday.
Sophomore Richie Karban (Elyria) and junior John Rissell (Whitefish Bay, Wis./University School) lost to Austin Griffin and Tim Rosensteel at No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-4, junior Will Thieman (Columbus/Upper Arlington) and freshman Conor Breen (Essex Falls, N.J./Kimberley Academy) fell to Michael Razumovsky and C.J. Williams by an 8-3 count at No. 2 doubles, and senior Ryan Leslie (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) and junior Matt Swaim (Oregon/Clay) lost to Davis Thrailkill and Kevin Ye at No. 3 doubles by a margin of 8-4.
In singles play, Thieman lost to Paul Burgin at No. 1 singles by scores of 6-0, 6-1, and Karban fell to Razumovsky at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
