Ohio Wesleyan Finishes Third in NCAC All-Sports Race

Ohio Wesleyan University finished in third place in the North Coast Athletic Conference All-Sports final standings, it was announced today by the NCAC.

DePauw compiled 64 points during the spring 2012 season, winning championships in women's golf and women's tennis and adding top-3 finishes in baseball, softball, men's tennis, and women's outdoor track & field to win the 2011-12 All-Sports championship with 153½ points.

Denison had 70 points during the spring season, winning titles in men's and women's lacrosse and adding a second in men's tennis and third-place finishes in men's golf and women's tennis, to finish with 153 points.

Ohio Wesleyan collected 65½ points during the spring season, winning the conference title in women's outdoor track & field and adding top-4 finishes in men's outdoor track & field, men's golf, men's lacrosse, and baseball to finish with 151½ points.

The NCAC all-sports champion receives the Dennis M. Collins Award, given annually to the school that performs the best across the NCAC's 23 sports. Ten points are awarded for a first-place finish, 9 for a second, 8 for a third, and so on. Men's and women's performances are combined, exemplifying the NCAC's commitment to equity and balance among programs. Wooster won 3 of the first 4 all-sports championships, interrupted once by Denison. Ohio Wesleyan followed with a 6-year run leading to titles by Wooster (twice), Wittenberg (once), and Denison (9). The Battling Bishops won the next two titles and tied Denison for the crown in 2008-09, followed by Wittenberg in 2009-10 and Denison in 2010-11.

Ohio Wesleyan leads the way with 133 team championships in the NCAC's 27th year of competition. Denison is next with 121 titles, followed by Allegheny (108), Kenyon (97), Wittenberg (75), and Wooster (73).
