DePauw 2, Ohio Wesleyan 0
Friday's North Coast Athletic Conference tournament contest between Ohio Wesleyan and DePauw was suspended in the top of the fifth inning.
The game will resume at 11 a.m. on Saturday with DePauw batting in the top of the fifth inning. The winner of the Ohio Wesleyan-DePauw contest will face Wooster in the tournament championship game. The Ohio Wesleyan-DePauw survivor would need to defeat Wooster twice to win the conference championship, while Wooster would need to collect only one victory to win the double-elimination tournament.
Ohio Wesleyan loaded the bases against Tiger starter Andy Manson in the third, collecting a single by junior second baseman Zach Bott (Dublin/Coffman) and walks to senior shortstop Steve Gaydos (Strongsville) and senior first baseman Tim Knezovich (Columbus/Briggs), but Manson came back to retire junior catcher James Toland (Stow/Walsh Jesuit) on a fly ball to center to get out of the inning.
Freshman lefthander Charles Cooper (Columbus/Upper Arlington) blanked the Tigers through 3.0 innings of work, but DePauw pushed across a run in the fourth as Jason Cohen led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice, and scored on a single by Robbie Stein.
Zach Starr led off the Tiger fifth with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice, and scored when Rob McPike's grounder trickled through the legs of Gaydos into short left center.
After Cohen fouled out for the second out, lightning was spotted in the distance and the field was cleared. The delay extended to approximately 90 minutes because of intermittent lightning strikes, and then heavy rains pelted the field. Finally, after another half-hour, the game was suspended.
