Six Bishops Named to All-NCAC Baseball Teams

A total of 6 Ohio Wesleyan University baseball players were named to the All-North Coast Athletic Conference teams, it was announced today.

Junior catcher James Toland (Stow/Walsh Jesuit) was a first-team all-conference choice; freshman lefthander Charles Cooper (Columbus/Upper Arlington), junior righthander Steve Skarsten (Phoenix, Ariz./Mountain Pointe), and senior first baseman Nathan Strome (Sidney) were second-team all-league selections; and senior first baseman Tim Knezovich (Columbus/Briggs) and senior shortstop Steve Gaydos (Strongsville) were honorable mention picks.

Cooper was named NCAC Newcomer of the Year.  He compiled a 3-4 record with a 1.89 earned run average this season, leading the league in the latter.

Toland batted .310 with a team-leading 4 home runs, and drove in 26 runs this season. 

Skarsten went 5-4 with a 2.50 earned run average this season.

Strome led the Bishops with 30 RBI this season, batting .299 with 3 home runs.

Knezovich led the team with a .333 batting average, and added 3 home runs and 28 runs batted in.  He was an honorable mention All-NCAC pick in 2011 and a first-team All-NCAC selection in 2010.

Gaydos batted .291 with 27 RBI this season.

Ohio Wesleyan finished with a 23-18 record, the Bishops' 27th consecutive winning season and Ohio Wesleyan's 26th straight year with at least 20 wins. The Bishops finished the regular season with a 9-7 mark in NCAC West Division play and finished third in the conference tournament.
