Denison 3, Ohio Wesleyan 1

Freshman attacker Montana Knapp (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) scored to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 2-1, but defending conference champion Denison held off the Bishop rally and took a win in Ohio Wesleyan's North Coast Athletic Conference lidlifter on Tuesday at Selby Stadium.

The Big Red took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when Courtney Testani centered the ball to Catie Merrick, who tipped it into the Bishop cage from close range.

Denison added to its lead late in the period when Katie McMahon picked off a clearing pass and scored into the unprotected cage.

Ohio Wesleyan struck quickly in the second half, scoring before the period was 2 minutes old.  The Bishops had earned a penalty corner, and junior attacker Sadie Slager (Hudson) sent the ball to Knapp at the circle.  Knapp fired a low shot that appeared to deflect off a Denison stick and carom high into the Big Red cage, bringing the Bishops within 2-1.

Denison got the goal back in the 59th minute when McMahon made a run into the circle and backhanded a shot into the Bishop cage.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Denison, 13-9.  Freshman Karson Stevenson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) had 2 saves for Ohio Wesleyan.  Brittany Benson had 7 saves for the Big Red.
