Ohio Wesleyan 3, Wilmington 1
Senior midfielder Jessie Huschart (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) scored one goal and set up another as Ohio Wesleyan built a 3-0 lead and went on to defeat Wilmington in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday at Roy Rike Field.
Huschart put the Bishops on the scoreboard just over a minute into the game when her 25-yard shot got through Quaker keeper Sarah Stauffer and into the Wilmington net.
Wilmington nearly tied it at the 9-minute mark when Sarah Watters got a good look from inside the Bishop penalty area, only to see her shot hit the crossbar.
The Bishops increased their lead to 2-0 in the 35th minute when freshman forward Claire Lofgren (Kirtland) crossed the ball into the box for junior midfielder Emily Sattler (Marysville). Stauffer broke up the play, but could not control the loose ball, and Sattler knocked it into the Quaker goal.
Huschart helped Ohio Wesleyan to a 3-0 lead in the 40th minute. Ohio Wesleyan had earned a corner kick, and Huschart sent the ball into the penalty area, where sophomore back Sarah Stachowiak (Westlake) finished the chance in front of the Wilmington goal.
The Quakers started off the second half in much the same way the Bishops opened the game, with a goal from about 25 yards out. Wilmington forward Lauren Price chipped a shot over Bishop goalkeeper Hannah Zacharias (Marysville) that made it a 3-1 game less than 90 seconds into the period.
Wilmington would collect 3 corner kicks during the first 15 minutes of the half, but the Quakers would not translate those into dangerous chances. Watters and Price each put shots on goal for the Quakers during the period, but both times, Zacharias was there for the save.
Wilmington outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 17-14. Zacharias finished with 3 saves for Ohio Wesleyan, while Stauffer and Taylor Franklin combined for 6 saves for Wilmington.
