Ohio Wesleyan 2, Wittenberg 1
Senior midfielder Lauren Bailey (Toledo/Ottawa Hills) scored less than 2 minutes into the first overtime period, giving Ohio Wesleyan a North Coast Athletic Conference victory over Wittenberg on Saturday at Selby Stadium.
Bailey's goal came from the right wing at the 71:51 mark.
After a scoreless first half in which the Bishops outshot the Tigers by a count of 9-3, Ohio Wesleyan finally solved Wittenberg keeper Alie Marousek in the 42nd minute. Freshman attacker Montana Knapp (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) centered the ball from the right side to junior attacker Sadie Slager (Hudson), who scored from close range.
Wittenberg evened the game in the 53rd minute when Kellen Morrissey sent the ball into the circle from the right side and Megan Loofbourrow redirected it inside the left post.
Ohio Wesleyan keeper Karson Stevenson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) came up with a pair of big saves down the stretch, denying Tiger forward Tiffany McKenna in the 55th minute and again in the 67th minute.
The Bishops had a chance to win the game in regulation time, earning a penalty corner during the final seconds, but Knapp's shot was redirected wide of the goal by junior defender Jenna Ortega (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West).
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Wittenberg, 13-10. Stevenson recorded 4 saves for the Bishops, while Marousek had 3 saves in the Tiger cage.
