Senior Ethan Freet (London) was named Great Lakes Region Track Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, it was announced tonight by the USTFCCCA.
Freet won the North Coast Athletic Conference championship in the 400-meter dash in a conference-record time of :48.75. He also helped the Bishop 800-meter relay team win its event in record-setting time, with that unit's clocking of 1:28.01 breaking both the NCAC record of 1:29.99 set by Jason Martin, Clemon Choice, Matt Churpek, and Tyler Stillman of Ohio Wesleyan in 2000 as well as the school record of 1:29.54 set by Ryan Ellis, Sean Patrick, Jordon Exeter, and Nathan Osborn in 2009.
Freet will represent the Bishops at the NCAA Division III championship meet on Friday and Saturday at North Central College in Naperville, Ill. He is seeded second in the 400-meter dash, and will anchor the sixth-seeded Bishop 1600-meter relay team.
