A total of 4 Ohio Wesleyan University baseball players were named to the All-North Coast Athletic Conference teams, it was announced today.
Junior outfielder Sean Vollenweider (Westerville/St. Francis DeSales) was a first-team all-conference choice; sophomore lefthander Charles Cooper (Columbus/Upper Arlington) was a second-team all-league selection; and senior shortstop Zach Bott (Dublin/Coffman) and freshman catcher Aaron Caputo (Strongsville) were honorable mention picks.
Vollenweider led the Bishops and ranks eighth in the NCAC with a .377 batting average, and ranks among the league's top 15 in hits (52), runs scored (36), total bases (70), and slugging percentage (.507). He was an honorable mention All-NCAC pick in 2011.
Cooper compiled a 4-1 record with a 2.95 earned run average, ranking eighth in the league in the latter. He ranks third in the NCAC in opponent batting average (.224), and is tied for 10th in strikeouts (41). Cooper was a second-team all-conference pick for the second straight season, and was named NCAC Newcomer of the Year in 2012.
Bott batted ..295 with 4 home runs and 24 RBI this season, leading the team in the latter 2 categories. He was an honorable mention All-NCAC pick in 2010.
Caputo saw action both at catcher and third base this season, batting .319 with 20 RBI.
Ohio Wesleyan finished with an 18-19 record, snapping strings of 27 consecutive winning seasons and 26 straight years with at least 20 wins. The Bishops finished the regular season with an 8-11 mark in NCAC play and finished seventh in the final conference standings.
