at NCAA Division III championships
Junior Sarah Bechtel (Bellefontaine) and senior Hannah Benzing (Findlay/Liberty Benton) won All-America honors during the first day of the NCAA Division III championship meet, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse on Thursday in LaCrosse, Wis.
Benzing finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 145-2. She was seeded 16th in the event coming into the meet with a throw of 142-7.
Bechtel tied for seventh place in the pole vault, clearing 12-1½. She was seeded 17th in the event coming into the meet. Her effort of 12-1½ tied the school record she set earlier this season.
The 2 All-America finishes gave the Bishops 4½ points in the team standings, placing Ohio Wesleyan 13th among the 24 teams that scored during the first day of the meet.
NCAA Division III championship action continues on Friday. Senior Emily Amburgey (Germantown/Preble Shawnee) will compete in the high jump at 3:15 p.m. Eastern time, Benzing will compete in the hammer at 6 p.m. Eastern time, and sophomore Katie Reid (Marion/Harding) will run in the preliminaries of the 800-meter run at 8:10 p.m. Eastern time.
