at NCAA Division III championships
Sophomore Matt Hunter (Lexington, Mass.) and senior Silas Jolliff (Cardington/Cardington-Lincoln) represented Ohio Wesleyan during the second day of the NCAA Division III championship meet, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse on Friday in LaCrosse, Wis.
Jolliff competed in the 400-meter dash. He placed fifth in his heat in a time of :48.33 and did not advance to Saturday's final. Jolliff was seeded seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of :47.63.
Hunter finished 14th in the decathlon, scoring a total of 6172 points. Hunter was in fifth place after the first day of competition, and opened Friday's action by running the 110-meter hurdles in :14.81, the best effort of the meet. He recovered from a throw of 86-3 in the discus to clear 12-11½ in the pole vault, tying for fourth among the competitors, and finished with a throw of 106-9 in the javelin and a time of 5:19.95 in the 1500-meter run. Hunter was seeded 18th in the decathlon with a total of 6227 points.
NCAA championship action concludes on Saturday, when senior Ethan Freet (London) will compete in the 400-meter hurdles at 5:55 p.m., Eastern time, and the 1600-meter relay team of Jolliff, freshman Adam Turner (Clyde), senior Matt Martin (New Brighton, Pa./Riverside), and Freet will compete at 7:30 p.m., Eastern time.
