Amburgey Wins All-America Honors

Senior Emily Amburgey (Germantown/Preble Shawnee) won All-America honors during the second day of the NCAA Division III championship meet, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse on Friday in LaCrosse, Wis.

Amburgey finished eighth in the high jump, clearing 5-7.  The fourth- through 10th-place finishers all cleared 5-7, with those places decided on tiebreakers.  Amburgey was seeded 17th coming into the meet with a height of 5-6.

Senior Hannah Benzing (Findlay/Liberty Benton) finished 12th in the hammer with a throw of 169-3, breaking the school record of 167-11 set by Sharon Rymut in 2010.  Benzing was seeded 18th in the event with a throw of 167-5.  She won All-America honors with a sixth-place finish in the discus on Thursday.

Sophomore Katie Reid (Marion/Harding) competed in the 800-meter run.  She finished eighth in her heat in 2:21.13 and did not advance to Satuday's final.  Reid was seeded 22nd coming into the meet with a time of 2:12.94.

The All-America finishes by Amburgey, Benzing, and junior Sarah Bechtel (Bellefontaine) gave Ohio Wesleyan a total of 5½ points, good for 19th place among the 36 teams that scored during the first 2 days of the meet.
