The Ohio Wesleyan University men's soccer team has received a first-round bye and will host a second-round game of the NCAA Division III tournament on Sunday, it was announced by the NCAA on Monday.
Top-ranked Ohio Wesleyan will face Rose-Hulman (Ind.) at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex. Ticket prices for Sunday's second-round game will be $7 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens, and $2 for children under 12.
Ohio Wesleyan (19-0-3) won the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament, defeating Kenyon, 3-1, in the championship game. The Battling Bishops won the North Coast Athletic Conference championship with a 7-0-2 record. Ohio Wesleyan was ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA Division III poll dated Nov. 12 and in the d3soccer.com poll dated Nov. 12. Ohio Wesleyan will be making its NCAA-record 36th Division III playoff appearance. The Battling Bishops won the NCAA Division III national championship in 1998 and 2011 and have made 9 appearances in the national semifinals.
Rose-Hulman (11-5-5) advanced to the second round by outscoring Penn State-Behrend on penalty kicks, 9-8, after a scoreless tie in a first-round contest on Thursday. Rose-Hulman won the Heartland Conference's automatic bid with a 1-0 win over Transylvania on Saturday. The Engineers went 6-1-2 in Heartland play during the regular season. Rose-Hulman is making its second NCAA Division III tournament appearance in 3 seasons and its third overall appearance. Ohio Wesleyan and Rose-Hulman have played once, with the Bishops taking a 3-0 decision in 2009.
The winner of Sunday's second-round game will advance to the sectional semifinals (final 16 teams) to be played on Nov. 22-23 or Nov. 23-24 on the campus of one of the competing institutions.
