Ohio Wesleyan University junior Nick Norman (Cincinnati/Oak Hills), senior Brian Schaefer (Chatham, N.J.), and senior Matt DiCesare (Westerville/St. Francis DeSales) have been voted to the Academic All-America® men's soccer teams, it was announced today.
Norman and Schaefer were second-team Academic All-America® selections, while DiCesare was a third-team Academic All-America® pick.
Norman and DiCesare were starters on an Ohio Wesleyan defense that compiled a goals-against average of 0.97 and posted 9 shutouts this season. DiCesare majors in finance economics, while Norman majors in management economics.
Schaefer compiled 15 goals and 11 assists this season. His 15 goals ranks third in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while the 11 assists leads the league and the 41 points shares the conference lead. Schaefer majors in accounting and minors in management economics.
Ohio Wesleyan finished the season with a 16-5-2 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs in Ohio Wesleyan's NCAA-record 38th Division III tournament appearance.
The Academic All-America® teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. To be considered for the teams, one must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better and be a starter or important reserve.
