Bishops' Gray, DeWitt Voted District Player, Coach of Year

Ohio Wesleyan junior Claude Gray (Avon) was voted Great Lakes District Player of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, it was announced today by the NABC.

Gray also was a first-team all-district selection.

Gray, a post player, was named the North Coast Athletic Conference's Player of the Year, the Bishops' third NCAC Player of the Year selection in the last 4 seasons.  Gray led the NCAC in scoring with an average of 19.4 points per game and ranked 13th in the conference in rebounding with an average of 5.8 per game.  He was second in the league in 3-point field goals (2.8/game), tied for eighth in steals (1.4/game), and was ninth in free throw percentage (.778) and 3-point field goal percentage (.392).

Ohio Wesleyan head coach Mike DeWitt also was honored by the NABC, sharing Great Lakes District Coach of the Year laurels.  This is DeWitt's third District Coach of the Year recognition.  He previously won the award in 2008 and 2013.

The Battling Bishops finished the season with a 22-6 record.  Ohio Wesleyan won the NCAC championship with a 16-2 record, the Bishops' first NCAC title since the 1987-88 season, and made its fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III tournament.
