Tosino (Hudson) delivered a 2-run single during a 4-run sixth-inning rally that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay, and sophomore pitcher Will Clyne (Norwalk, Conn./Notre Dame) worked 4.0 innings of hitless relief to collect the win as the Bishops opened their season with a win over St. John Fisher on Sunday in Punta Gorda, Fla.
The Bishops took a 1-0 lead in the first as junior shortstop Justin Dages (Green/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) led off with a single, moved to second on an infield out, stole third, and scored on a sacrifice fly by junior catcher Aaron Caputo (Strongsville).
The Cardinals took the lead on Vic Konstantinovsky's 2-run single in the second and added a run on an RBI single by Joe Simmons in the fourth.
With one out in the Bishop sixth, junior outfielder Steven Moore (Hamilton) reached on an error by Cardinal shortstop Cody Wiktorski. Junior third baseman Tyler Flaherty (Dublin/Scioto) followed with a single, and one out later, senior first baseman J.J. Buckey (Toledo/Ottawa Hills) singled in Moore to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 3-2. After Buckey stole second, Tosino singled home Flaherty and Buckey to give the Bishops a 4-3 lead. Senior catcher Collin Finn (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) followed with a single to score Tosino.
Clyne came on to start the sixth inning and faced the minimum during his 4.0 innings of work. He retired the first 10 batters he faced, then hit a batter with one out in the ninth, but Finn threw out that runner trying to steal second to end the game.
Tosino went 3-for-4 to highlight the Bishop offense. Dages and Flaherty had 2 hits apiece.
Junior righthander Pete Munger (Perrysburg) started on the hill for Ohio Wesleyan, working the first 5.0 innings.
Ryan Felske was the losing pitcher in relief for St. John Fisher.
